Q: What is the difference between Junior Baseball and Little League?
A: Junior Baseball is sanctioned by the Junior Baseball Association and Little League by the Little League Association. What this simply means is that each organization has its own rules and regulations. Playing rules differ such as being able to lead off, steal and the use of bigger barrel bats for junior baseball. Pitching mounds and base lengths also differ. Both Associations have similar guiding principles and philosophies.

Q: Why should I choose Barlow Baseball over Gresham or Sandy Little league?
A: Ultimately the choice is yours. We like to think that Barlow Junior Baseball offers a unique advantage over Little League by preparing the player for high school baseball. Junior Baseball basically follows the high school rules and being part of Barlow Junior Baseball furthers the players preparation. We also have a highly dedicated and talented group of coaches, and parents that are involved in every aspect of the playing season.

Q: How do I sign up to be a coach?
A: Once we have your filled out registration and current email, the league will send out information regarding coaching and the requirements. We hope you are interested, if so just sign up using the correct form. All Coaches must pass a complete background check before being assigned a team. Coaching information is also available on our website at barlowjuniorbaseball.org.

A: Barlow Junior Baseball is always looking for participants to get involved and we have a number of opportunities throughout the year. Contact your teams coach or email the league and someone will call you directly. WE WELCOME ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Q: How are decisions made regarding the league operations?
A: Like most leagues Barlow Junior Baseball is governed by an executive board of directors. These positions are voted on and determined once a year at the annual kick off meeting in early October. Anyone in the league may apply for a position on the board. These members have the responsibility to organize the year’s events and guide the league in decision making and finances throughout the season.

Q: How does the tryout process work?
A: Tryouts are scheduled for early February. You will be emailed further information as the event gets closer. Extensive planning and discussion happens every year to format the exact method. Each player is simply scored on their ability to perform ground balls, fly balls, base running and batting. Usually there are callbacks for the majority of the players as the league starts putting the teams together. We encourage all players to put their best effort forward during the tryout process.
