Q: What is the difference between Junior Baseball and Little League?

A: Junior Baseball is sanctioned by the Junior Baseball Association, while Little League is sanctioned by Little League Baseball. Each organization has its own rules and field dimensions. Junior Baseball generally allows lead-offs and stealing, uses larger-barrel bats, and features different mound and base distances. While the rules differ, both organizations share similar values and philosophies.

Q: Why choose Barlow Junior Baseball over Gresham or Sandy Little League?

A: The choice is yours, but Barlow Junior Baseball is designed to prepare players for high school baseball. Junior Baseball closely follows high school rules, making it a natural development path for most players. We also benefit from a dedicated group of coaches and highly involved parents who support the league throughout the season.

Q: How do I sign up to be a coach?

A: Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions are volunteer options during player registration. After registration closes, we will share coaching expectations and requirements. If you missed the opportunity to sign up, please email us to express your interest. All coaches must complete a background check and safety training before being assigned to a team.

Q: How can I get involved as a volunteer?

A: We welcome volunteers year-round. Opportunities are available throughout the season. Contact your coach or email the league to get involved—we welcome all volunteers!

Q: How are league decisions made?

A: Barlow Junior Baseball is governed by an executive board of directors. Board members are elected annually at the league kickoff meeting (typically in early October). Anyone connected to the league may apply. The board oversees league operations, events, and finances. Positions include both specific roles and at-large members.

Q: What are our home fields?

A: Most home games are played at the following locations:

  • Gordon Russell Middle School: T-Ball, Rookies, Minors

  • West Orient Middle School: Juniors

  • Barlow High School: Seniors

Q: How do I receive league updates and event information?

A: Email is our primary communication method. You can also reach us with questions at barlowjrbaseball@gmail.com.

Q: How does the tryout process work?

A: Tryouts are held in early February for Minor, Junior, and Senior teams. Additional details will be emailed as the date approaches. Players are evaluated on fielding (ground balls and fly balls), base running, and batting. Most players are invited to callbacks as teams are formed. We encourage all players to give their best effort.
